I got to know Walt on his many trips to the Trails Club lodge. He and my husband (Jerry Reneau) spent many hours helping rebuild Nesika Lodge. I was always impressed by the depth of his knowledge in the area of engineering and nature. He will be truely missed.
I knew Walt as a fellow board member of Clackamas County Farm Forestry Association many years ago. I heard about his connection to timberland in southwest Oregon. And I knew he liked to hike and backpack by his affiliation with Trails Club. Walt was a great guy I am glad I met. RIP, Walt
I became a part of the Garvin family when they welcomed me as an AFS foreign exchange student in 1984. I had a wonderful experience as Walt became dad and Pat was mum. He taught me so many things about life in America. We went hiking and backpacking which was fun and my husband and kids in the later years were also introduced to that. We have always maintained contact and I saw him quite recently when I was in Milwaukee for my Rex Putman high school 50th year reunion. Dad you will always remain in my heart.

Ron and I were remembering the backpack trip to the Wallowas that Walt took a group of us on. One evening, we all laid on a tarp he brought to watch the perseid meteor showers. We will never forget that (& many other hiking, backpacking, and camping stories). I'm sure Walt is leading a group on an adventure in Heaven right now!
