Vivian Dorothy Rakel's Obituary
Vivian Dorothy Rakel, 92, formerly of West Linn, passed away in Kirkland, Washington on Dec. 13. Born Vivian Anderson in Portland on Sept. 24, 1923, her childhood was spent in Eagle Cliff, Washington on the Columbia River. The family returned to Portland in 1935 after her father passed away. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1941.
Vivian married William Rakel in 1950. They eventually settled in West Linn and raised a family. Vivian was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church for 20 years. She and Bill travelled extensively, both abroad and in their RV, particularly enjoying the annual family campouts. They were married over 60 years until his death in 2012.
"Squeak" was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family: son Jay (Suanne), and daughters Sandra (Randy) Wise, Kristi (Bernie) Lueck, and Vicki (Tony) Marquez, 5 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother, Herman Anderson of Portland. She will be dearly missed. A service will be held at Holman-Hankins-Bowker and Waud in Oregon City on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 2pm.
