Virginia Lee Holmgren Born Feb 20th 1931- Feb 29th 2020 Portland Oregon Born to Glenn & Lucille Shipman Siblings : Glenn Shipman jr , Faith Sutton, Orville Shipman Survived by Patricia Gore Virginia was born in Portland Oregon the second child to five siblings She was taken to Newton Kansas with her younger sister Faith at the age of 6 to live with her grandparents till she was 14. She returned to Portland Oregon She attended Franklin high school. While working part time at a local movie theater to help support her family giving them her entire paycheck each week going to school & caring for her younger siblings. She met Lawrence Holmgren through her brother as they were friends and in the Boy Scouts together. They married 1949. She was almost 18 and he was 21. She traveled with him to California to live while he was in the US Army Stationed at Camp Roberts. They lived in Santa Cruz California. While Lawrence was in the Army the had their first child a son Steven. Returning home to Portland Oregon they had a home built there a few years later had a daughter Laureen. They lived in Portland till moving to Milwaukie Oregon in 1971. Virginia worked as a seamstress for Janzten. Then became a professional cook the rest of her career. Working at the Rhinelander with Horst Mager and working for Elemers Pancake & steak house for 25 years. She worked for the Marriott for many years. She retired at the age of 75years. Virginia enjoyed Bowling, , ice skating, Bowling, Boating, camping , fishing, water skiing , swimming , cooking, Trips to the beach, family vacations to Disneyland, Las Vegas, Hawaii, picnics with family , and especially going to the Casino!! She loved the casino!! She was very lucky to win a few good jackpots and eating at the buffet She loved the movies one of her all time favorites. Gone with the Wind And many John Wayne favorites. She loved music. The wayward wind, North to Alaska , Tennessee Waltz, Many Elvis Presley's songs especially Can't help falling in love with you. & Neal Diamonds Cracklin Rosie. She was a woman once you met her you never forgot her, as she had a strong love for family & friends She was a very strong woman always standing up for what she believed in and always had your back to lend a hand when in need. She cooked turkeys for the homeless She was physically strong doing pull ups on the bar 12 times in a row. In her younger years. She was a positive person always saying "We will make it! " We will get there ! , we will make it together ! I will help you! I admired her strength, Her determination, her positivity, her generosity, her work ethics , and her fabulous cooking ability I She was one mother bear to always protect her children, I was very proud to call her my mama She was one of a kind And I will miss her for eternity always Her final resting place is with her husband my father Lawrence Holmgren at Willamette National Cemetery
