Viola Ruth Gilbertson's Obituary
Viola Ruth Gilbertson, affectionately known as "Vi," passed away on January 20, 2015, of natural causes. She was 89 years old. Vi was born in Pollock, South Dakota, on April 30, 1925, the oldest daughter, of nine brothers and sisters, of Ferdinand and Elizabeth Albrecht. At the age of 18, she moved to Canby, Oregon, where she met the love of her life, Kenny, and they married in 1948. Vi and Kenny resided in Oregon City for a short while, and then spent the rest of their lives in their West Linn home, that Kenny built in 1964.Vi and Kenny were parents to two children, Tim Gilbertson (Alyson) and Karen Meyers (John), and grandparents to Jeff, Jason (Amy), Kayla and Spencer. She is predeceased by Kenny, who passed in 2003, as well as her parents, five siblings and her grandson, Jeff.Vi had many interests, but her true passion was being of service to friends and family alike. She never met a person she didn't like. She was also very devout to her religious faith and spent many years as a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oregon City. Services for Vi will take place on Friday, January 30, 2015, 11:00 am, at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 720 Jefferson Street in Oregon City. A reception will follow afterwards at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
