Vincent Vandiver's Obituary
Vince Vandiver (April 27, 1915 - June 22, 2012) passed away last Friday afternoon at Marquis Care, Oregon City, Oregon.Vince was born in Glendale, California, a third generation Los Angelean. He went on to earn a triple Master's Degree in Latin, History, and Public Administration. His original plans to become a priest were set aside upon realizing that he wanted a family.Vince and Dorothy Schuman met at a Catholic Singles Dance, and were married on August 16, 1954 in Dorothy's hometown of Owatonna, Minnesota. They began their lives in Los Angeles, where Vince found his life's calling in teaching. History and Social Studies were the primary topics that Vince taught at Francis Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley, California. After 32 years of dedicated service to thousands of high school students, Vince found it difficult to step away from his career path.Upon retirement in 1984, Vince and Dorothy moved to Oregon, where two of their three children had relocated.In death, Vince precedes his wife, Dorothy, his children Robert Vandiver, Mary Vandiver Lewis, and Bonnie Vandiver Espe, plus grandchildren Christine Espe, Eric Espe, and Michael Espe.
