Stephen was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 16, 1956, to Jacqueline (Meyers) and Stephen Eugene Chiapella Jr. He lived in California for many years before moving to Oregon in the 1980s with his first wife Susan (Black) Chiapella. He worked in the early years of computers and semiconductors before moving into telecommunication management and finally into semi-retirement as a groundskeeper at Stone Creek Golf Club. Stephen enjoyed the simple things in life. He was a less is more and don't sweat it kind of guy. He truly loved his friends, making and keeping many over the years. His memory for people, places, dates, and music was astonishing. Stephen had many passions in life. He took great pleasure in playing with his grandchildren who all adored their Papa Steve. He loved spending time on the water with his wife, Lisa. He believed in being of service, and his commitment to others was profound. Deeply active in AA for over 15 years, he said being involved made him a better person, and it certainly did. The lives he impacted for the better were many and the lives that he touched are part of his legacy. Stephen said that watching the sun come up daily and seeing the light slowly creep into the day was one of the best things in life, and it could never get old. We will remember him whenever we see the sunrise and feel him with us through the sun's early rays. We're so glad for the time we had together and the love we shared.
