Shirley Jean Brown's Obituary
Shirley Jean Warren Brown.
11/27/1921 - 4/18/2016
Dean and Shirley are together again. Shirley was called home to be with her Heavenly Savior on April 18, 2016. She passed peacefully at her home in Milwaukie, after a 22-month battle with Congestive Heart Failure. Shirley was born November 27, 1921, in Oregon City, Oregon, the only child of Wilbur and Naomi Warren. While attending Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, she met the man of her dreams, Dean McLean Brown, whom she married in 1942, enjoying 59 years of marriage until Dean's death in 2002. Together they raised two children whom they were very proud of, Lianne Johansen (Jerry) of Portland, Oregon and Terry Brown (Debby) of Hillsboro, Oregon, and were loving grandparents to their four grandchildren, Elisabeth Nasshahn (Erik), Erica Johansen Brown (Dave) Simon Brown (Sara) and Clair Brown, and six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Laura and Josh Nasshahn, Lindsay and Allison Brown, and Silas Brown. Shirley loved her family, faith, animals, time spent beach combing for agates and shells, crabbing and hours spent playing Continental Rummy and Yahtzee at the family cabin in Woods, Oregon. Both Dean and Shirley enjoyed entertaining at their residences in Eugene, Salem and Milwaukie, Oregon. Shirley was a consummate homemaker and hostess, a wonderful cook and baker, with many family members requesting her Lemon Meringue Pie, "The Kneads of Mother Brown" rolls and her Cranberry Pudding on Christmas Day. Shirley was gifted at knitting, making sweaters for family members and baby blankets for her great-grandchildren that will be cherished. She also enjoyed playing the organ and listening to Classical and Big Band music. When they resided in Eugene, Shirley helped Dean with the Eugene Boys Athletic Club, for 20 years, (now known at the Eugene Sports Program) as a scorekeeper and secretary. Shirley loved pumpkin pie, chocolate milkshakes, watching Oregon Duck Football and the Seattle Mariners play Baseball. Shirley was a woman of great Faith, often to be heard saying "Let Go and Let God". In Lieu of flowers Shirley would like everyone to have a slice of pie, a good cup of coffee with friends and family. Arrangements are by Holman-Hankins-Bowker and Waud of Oregon City, Oregon. Private Internment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Homewoods on the Willamette, 17971 Southeast River Road, Milwaukie, Oregon.
