Shelee Caroline O'Dell's Obituary
Shelee Caroline O'Dell, 51, passed away peacefully Nov.1, 2015, at home, surrounded by loved ones. Her passing, which followed a valiant battle with metastatic melanoma, was marked by a dramatic cloud break and sudden sunshine, her family said.
Born June 5, 1964 in Corning, Calif., Shelee was the daughter of Judy and Jack Moore. She had one older sister, Leslee. After multiple moves with her family throughout the west and midwest, she settled in Oregon, graduating from Hillsboro's Glencoe High School in 1982. The English major then graduated from Oregon State University in 1986.
Shelee loved children, was passionate about education and became a published author of children's literature. While in college, Shelee met the love of her life, fellow student Douglas Brian O'Dell. After marrying and moving to Milwaukie, the couple were blessed with five children: Caroline Elizabeth, Christopher Brian, Thomas Benjamin, Michael John and Clare Marie Rose.
For many years, Shelee poured her talent for educating and passion for knowledge into homeschooling her own children. She created dynamic programs that included spontaneous field trips to museums, famous landmarks and wilderness areas, and fostered in her children a deep love of learning.
Shelee was a devout Catholic and active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Oregon City.
She is survived by her husband, Doug; her two daughters, Caroline and Clare; her oldest son Chris and partner Paige Talbot, and younger sons Thomas and Michael; her parents, Judy and Jack; her sister, Leslee Lukosh and brother-in-law, Robert Lukosh; and her grandmother, Violet Lucille Moore.
A funeral mass was held on Thursday, Nov. 5 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.
