Serena A Ruconich's Obituary
Serena A. Ruconich Serena A. Mahoney was born on September 11, 1939 in Odessa, Texas and passed away from cancer in Portland on March 15,2014 in the loving arms of her family and friends at age 74. After high school graduation she enlisted in the Navy and was sent to San Diego, where she met a sailor named William Ruconich. They were married on March 25, 1960 and spent almost 54 years together. Their son, Keith, was born in 1962 in Oregon City. William went to work for the U.S. State Department and they were sent to Clark Airbase in the Philippines where their daughters, Leah in 1964 and Stacey in 1965 were born. They then were assigned to Kabul, Afganistan. They returned to the states and were stationed at Culpepper, Virginia where their daughter, Kari, was born in 1969. They returned to Oregon then and lived in the Clackamas area for many years. They moved to Portland in 2004. Serena worked several years in the legal department of an asset recovery group and retired about 10 years ago. She is survived by her husband, William, son, Keith (Beverly), daughters, Stacey Edwards (Clark) and Kari Harmon (Dan). She had six grandchildren (the loves of her life) and three great grandchildren. She was able to meet and hold her two great grandsons who were born in December, one in Texas and the other in Alaska, a week before she died. She is also survived by four sisters and their families, and one brother and her sister-in-law, Betty Ruconich. Her daughter, Leah Becker, had died in 1986. At her request, no services will be held. A remembrance gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
