Richard "Dick" Carl Simantel's Obituary
Richard (Dick) Carl Simantel, 88, passed away on July 14th, 2025, in Wilsonville, OR, after struggling with complications of a stroke and heart attack. He came into this world on May 25, 1937, in Cornelius, OR, to join his two sisters, Diana and Elaine; brother Paul was born two years later. Dick was born at home, to proud parents Rudolf and Marie Simantel.
He graduated from West Linn HS (Class of ’55) followed by 4 years in the Navy. In 1962, he married Marilyn Gross. He and Marilyn started, owned and operated 2 businesses: West Linn Garden Center and RC Simantel Contractors, Builder. He was plant manager at ATEC Sports for several years. Dick enjoyed working with his hands, tinkering, building, woodworking, gardening and kids, and was active in Cub Scouts and Lions Club. Dick and Marilyn also loved the ocean, making memory filled days in Maui and at the Oregon Coast.
Dick was preceded in death by: Parents: Rudolf and Marie Simantel, Sisters: Diana, Elaine and Judith, Brothers: Paul, Warren, Ronald, Harlan and Steven.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn, his son Paul (Jeanette) Simantel, grandson Jared (Ashley) Painter, great grandson Eli Painter, brother Gary (Eline) Simantel and many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Richard (Dick) was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, known for his kind heart, bright smile, wittiness, charm and eagerness to help. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on August 7th, 2025, at 11am, at the Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd Happy Valley OR 97086. In lieu of flowers, donations to your Local “Toys for Tots Foundation” are appreciated https://www.toysfortots.org/.
