Myrtle Johnson Helm's Obituary
Myrtle Johnson Helm went to meet her Lord on August 31, 2012 after living quite independently for 103 full years. Myrtle was born to Richard and Nellie Meyer in Lake City, Minnesota on June 25, 1909. She was raised in a German speaking neighborhood and went to German Lutheran church services as well as being confirmed in German. She married Douglas Walter Johnson November 23, 1930 in Wahpeton North Dakota. Myrtle and Doug enjoyed nearly 32 years residing in North Dakota, California and Montana. They raised 4 children: Beverly Jobin of Sequim, WA , Dale (Gladys) of Hudson, WI, Douglas (Pamela) of Billings, MT, and Cheryl (Mark) Nelson of Milwaukie, OR. who all cherished her and celebrate her life today. She is survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great granddaughters. After 12 years of independent living as a Mother and ceramics instructor, Myrtle married Oscar Helm. They resided together in Mesa Arizona. The last 9 years of her life she moved to the Springs in Milwaukie, Oregon to be close to her daughter Cheryl and family. Myrtle so enjoyed traveling, especially the annual cruise with her children and their spouses the last few years. Myrtle is proceeded in death by her husbands, Douglas W. Johnson and Oscar Helm, two grandsons, Mark Steinley and Troy Johnson, son-in-law Andre Jobin, and sister, Laura Houge. She is survived also by brother-in-law, J Harry Johnson of Sidney, MT and several nieces and nephew in the Wahpeton, ND area.Donations can be made to The Lutheran Hour or Odyssey Hospice of Portland OR
