Michael "Mike" Dean Hellberg's Obituary
Michael Dean Hellberg, 75, passed away on October 10, 2024, from Agent Orange and a long battle with cancer.
Mike was born in Pete’s Mountain to Elsie and Edward Hellberg on September 14, 1949, and was raised by Elsie and Carl Schaber after Edward’s passing in 1952. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Darlene; son, Gregory Hellberg (Shelby); grandchildren, Dylan, Bailey and Ryleigh Hellberg, and sister Linda Unti (George).
Mike started school at the 3-grade Stafford School and continued at Willamette Elementary, West Linn High School and Oregon State University.
He joined the US Army in 1968 and was deployed to Vietnam, where he served in the Redcatcher Brigade for 2 years.
After returning home from the war, Mike worked at Publisher’s Paper Mill for many years. He became an avid fisherman and was a skilled beekeeper.
Military honors services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday, November 15 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Vietnam Veterans of America or any of the many other military organizations that are available and in need of help.
