Melvin Bayless' Obituary
Melvin "Bud or Bill" Bayless (depending on how you know him), was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 3, 1923. He passed away February 19, 2020.
Bud married the love of his life on November 5, 1942. Shortly after he went off to war aboard the Destroyer USS Callaghan during WWII.
After his ship was hit by a kamikaze and sunk off the island of Okinawa, he returned to Gresham and took a job with the local paper mill in Oregon City (Publishers, Blue Heron, Smurfit), where he retired after 38 years.
During retirement Bud enjoyed snow-birding in Arizona, woodworking, traveling, fishing and clamming in Long Beach.
After 77 years of marriage Bud is survived by the following: Betty Bayless (wife), Jo (Melva) Guyot (daughter), Butch (Walter) Bayless (son), six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Evelyn Curths.
