Mary Christine Nerpel Smith's Obituary
Mary Christine Nerpel Smith born November 8, 1955, in Oaks North Dakota. Mary passed away peacefully after a 2-year battle with cancer, in her sleep December 9, 2021, at her home in Oregon City, Oregon. Mary who was preceded in death by her mother Laura Funk in 2002 and her first husband Steven Smith in 2001. Mary moved from Oaks North Dakota as a child to Great Falls Montana and to Oregon City in 1974 where she graduated from Oregon city high school in 1975 and from Portland State University in 1993. Mary is survived by her husband Norman Wegner they were married February 14, 2020, her father Leon Nerpel, Brothers Leon (Kenny) Nerpel, Ludwick (George) Nerpel, sisters Peggy Jackson and Beth Dimock, sons Joshua Smith and Clifford Smith, stepson Stan Smith and stepdaughter Jody Lutz and seven grandchildren. Mary was active with her sons in Boy Scouts. Where both Joshua and Clifford obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. She went on many camping trips and hosted meetings in her home. She was active with the Oregon City transportation and planning committee as a volunteer for many years. After many years in private industry as a bookkeeper she went to work for the State of Oregon working her way to being the Banking Manager for PERS where she retired in 2020. Mary ran a tax preparation business with her brother Kenny for many years in Oregon City. Mary enjoyed entertaining family and friends for BBQs and holiday dinners at her home in Oregon City. She also enjoyed camping wile joining Norman and his family on hunting trips, cooking, and introducing them to Dutch oven cooking over an open fire. She enjoyed annual trips to Astoria for salmon fishing at B10 always out fishing the guys. Mary enjoyed girls only fishing trips with guide David Johnson where she made many new fishing friends.Mary was a huge supporter of veterans.Mary who will be missed by everyone who knew her.
