Martha Laszlo April 11, 1932 - May 4, 2015
Martha Laszlo, (born Ferenczy Marta) in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. Her father, Ferenczy Ferenc was a paint store owner and merchant. She lost her mother at age of one, and was raised by her grandparents and father. During the Second World War they moved to the Western part of Hungary, Szombathely. In the middle school age Martha was placed and educated 4 years in a Catholic nunnery. The family was bombed out and survived the misery of the War. In 1945 in a small apartment complex she met the boy next door. The puppy love of a 13 yrs. old girl and a 15 yrs. old boy blossomed into a marriage and to eternal love in Dec 22 1951. Her husband George was an engineer for a large sawmill company. Their son Thomas was born in 1952 and George T. in 1955. In the late Fall of 1956, after the unsuccessful Hungarian upraise against the Russian occupying military, they escaped Hungary and become refugees, consequently immigrants to the USA. Arrived to the USA Dec.13, 1956 and to Portland, Oregon Dec.18 1956. Sponsored by the Rose City Presbyterian church, George found a job as a draftsman. After the first years of typical immigrants struggling they flourished. George became a successful Civil and Structural Engineer. Daughter Susanna was born 1960 in Portland, OR. Martha was a stay at home Mom and they raised the family in Mt. View Drive at Mt. Tabor where they lived for 28 yrs. During the children college years they bought a small piece of land and built a Summer Home on the Clackamas River which became their retirement home for 22 yrs. Martha was active in boys scout and school PTA work. She belonged to Ascension and later to St.Philip Benizi Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling to Europe, and long winter vacations in Hawaii, Mexico, Palm Springs CA., Scottsdale Ariz. Above all she loved her family and the "No Name Cabin" where she was gardening, raising flowers and vegetables. She was an avid book worm capable for reading 2-3 books a week.
She is survived by her husband for 63 yrs. George. Children: Thomas (Colleen), George T. and Susanna (Lans). Grandchildren: Anthony, Joseph, Nicholas, their spouses, and five great grandchildren. She also loved and received love from three step-grandchildren, their spouses and seven step great-grandchildren.
A Catholic Requiem Mass will be held for the family at a later date.
