Martha Caldes Donohoe Martha Caldes Donohoe, 93, passed away peacefully at Mitch's Care Home, Portland, Oregon on November 19th. Martha was born September 16, 1921 in Jersey city, New Jersey, the daughter of restaurateur Cornelius Caldes and Evangeline Politis. She attended the American Junior College in Athens, Greece, the Academy of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, New Jersey and graduated from American University in Washington D.C. with a degree in Art Education. She was married to the late Robert S. Miller and the late Daniel Donohoe. A loving mother of two girls, she enjoyed welcoming their friends too. The smell of freshly baked cookies and the sound of laughter often permeated the house. She taught Art and Spanish in the 1960s to 1970s in Maryland, Arizona and California. She loved children, and especially enjoyed expanding their appreciation of the visual arts. She was also an accomplished painter, and spent many hours at her easel perfecting her oil paintings. She was active as a volunteer for many years at the Evangelical Church of San Francisco. Recently she moved to the Portland area to be closer to her daughter and son in law. She is survived by children, Pamela Miller Chaconas and son in law James Chaconas of Annapolis, Maryland, and Cornelia Miller Vancil and son in law Bernard Vancil of Beaverton, Oregon; grandchildren Eric and Cindy Chaconas of St. Augustine, Florida, and Michael Chaconas of Wayne, Pennsylvania, and great grandchildren Dimitrios and Kalia Chaconas of St Augustine, Florida. She was much loved, and will be missed. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a favorite charity.
