Marian Bluhm Martenson's Obituary
Marian (Bluhm) Martenson, 91, passed away April 21, 2023, at home in Beavercreek, Oregon surrounded by her children.
Marian was born on September 21, 1931 to Harold and Martha Bluhm in Oregon City, Oregon. At the age of 12, Marian and her younger sister, Beverly tragically lost their mother to illness. Their father later married war widow Alta Kirk and the family expanded by her three sons, Larry, Gary, Denny and a daughter, Kareen.
Marian graduated from Milwaukie High School, then attended Pacific Lutheran College. On March 2, 1951, Marian married Donald Martenson in Milwaukie, Oregon.
In 1956 Don and Marian answered a missionary call to Madagascar where Don was a builder for the Lutheran Mission. They brought along their two children, Donnie and Blenda. By 1963, when they returned to Oregon, the family had grown to include Terry, David, and Cary. Five years later they settled on a 57-acre farm in Beavercreek, Oregon
.
In 1975, Don and Marian founded and ran “Don’s Fireplace Furnace” until they retired in 1984. She lived out her retirement years happily on the farm, entertaining family and friends and tending her flower gardens. Since childhood, Marian had been a beloved member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Marian is preceded in death by Donald, her husband of 68 years, in 2019. And is survived by five children, Donald, Blenda, Terry, David, and Cary, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and five siblings, Beverly Stone, Larry Kirk, Gary Kirk, Denny Kirk and Kareen Kimsey.
There will be no visitation.
