Obituary for Madeline Louise BluemleMadeline Louise Bluemle of Portland, Oregon who died on February 10th, 2014 at the age of 86, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Wolbert) Bluemle, was born and reared in Springfield, Ohio. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1946 and Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Cincinnati in 1949. After working at Cincinnati General Hospital and Springfield's Mercy Hospital, she joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1953, and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1978, living in Seaside, Oregon then Manzanita for 25 years, before moving to Portland.During her 25 years in the Army, LTC Bluemle worked in all areas of nursing, including administration and research. Overseas assignments were in France, Germany and Hawaii. She held a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas and a Master of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University in Detroit.LTC Bluemle received the first of three Meritorious Service Medals for setting up and conducting the first-ever Dialysis Technicians Course at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC, while she was assigned to the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. This course prepared selected enlisted personnel to care for acutely ill patients with kidney failure being treated on the artificial kidney.LTC Bluemle was a member of St Mary's by the Sea Parish in Rockaway Beach for 25 years, where she was a caretaker for the gardens for many years. She resided her last years at Town Center Village Retirement Community in Portland.She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honorary Society of Nursing, as well as The Military Officers Association of America, Women in Military Service for America, and the National Wildlife Federation.She is survived by a sister, Catherine Murphy of Dayton, Ohio, sister-in-law Helen Jean Bluemle of Indianapolis, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews and their progeny.Mass of Christian Burial will be said at Christ the King Church, Milwaukee, Oregon on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 @ 10:00AM. Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. In lieu of flowers, remembrances are requested to be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society in Portland.
