Mackenzie Kane Jones' Obituary
Mackenzie “Mac” Kane Jones passed away unexpectedly on August 13, 2023. His family and
friends are deeply saddened by his death, coming just days after his 32 nd birthday.
Mac was a lifelong Oregonian. He was born on August 10, 1991, to Anita Jones and John Kane in
Portland, OR. He attended Richmond Elementary School and Mt. Tabor Middle School as part of
the Japanese Magnet Program (JMP), Cleveland High School, and two years at Oregon State
University. Even as a kid, Mac was a fierce competitor with a love for sports, but especially
baseball. From age 8 onward, he was always involved in baseball, serving as an outstanding
high school pitcher and on the Oregon All State Team; coaching for the NW Stars and McDaniel
High School team; and captaining the underdog softball Louisville Chuggers as an adult, a
cherished weekly ritual with his friends. In recent years, he worked as a Priority Responder in
the home restoration field with ServePro. He took quickly to his new career and was loved and
appreciated by everyone in the company.
In high school, Mac met Anne Sweeney, his fiancée and partner in life. The two reconnected in
their late 20s, and Mac made it clear he wouldn’t let Anne go this time around. They were
engaged on December 17, 2022 and due to be married on October 6, 2023. The two had
already built a full and loving life together in SE Portland: raising Anne’s son, Milo, supporting
each other, and loving each moment they had together. Everyone who knew Mac recognized
that the role that fit him best was father – he stepped in as a stepfather to Milo with ease and
confidence, quickly building an unbreakable bond and always showing up as a dad. Mac and
Anne had big plans for their future, and he was thrilled to begin this next chapter.
Mac had a genuine, loving heart that was felt by all who knew him. He radiated happiness and
found silver linings wherever he could – the many friends, coworkers, and family members who
loved and admired him is a testament to the large impact he made on others’ lives. He had a
rare gift of making all feel welcome and putting them at ease, and he was always surrounded by
friends who became his chosen family. He was passionate about family, as evidenced by his
many visits to Montana to visit his mother and sister’s family, sharing his love of sports with his
father over dinner, and his interest in family history; he was beloved “Uncle Mac” who was
always up for anything with his nephew and niece. In his professional roles, Mac was dedicated,
treated everyone equally, and was recognized as a kind and fair boss.
The impact his life had on this world will not be forgotten as his spirit will live on in all the lives
he touched. Mac is survived by his loving partner Anne and stepson Milo Flanigan; mother Anita
Jones; father and step-mother John and Marie Kane; sister and brother-in-law Alexis and Bryan
Gibson; niece and nephew Sullivan and Louisa Gibson; his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and
extended family; and a large network of friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe page ( https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-anne-milo-in-memory-of-mac-jones ) has been set up to support Anne and Milo as they move through this difficult time.
