Lois Mae Farleigh's Obituary
Lois Mae Farleigh
November 5, 1923 – May 8, 2023
A memorial service and celebration of life will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in West Linn.
Lois was born in Oregon City, Oregon to Ferrell and Golda Heater. She died peacefully in her sleep at Riverview Adult Care Home in Lake Oswego at age 97. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Dell.
Lois attended and graduated from Bolton Grade School and West Linn High School (as did her three sons, Scott, Randy, and Rick.) Next, she graduated from the Oregon College of Education on May 26,1944. She married Dell Farleigh at the Oregon City Presbyterian Church on May 27, 1945. Lois began her teaching career at Bolton Grade School where she taught for 26 years until she retired on May 27, 1982. Lois and her husband lived across the street from the grade school in the same house built by her father and her husband, Dell, until 2015. Lois while raising her three sons who were then in high school and grade school, returned to Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree on June 8, 1962.
Lois was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and even willing to babysit their dogs! She is survived by her three sons, Scott (Judy) Farleigh, Randy (Denise) Farleigh, and Rick (Jeanne) Farleigh, and 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to supporting all of their collective sporting activities, she enjoyed boating on Oregon lakes and rivers and in the San Juan Islands and Canada, traveling to interesting places like Hong Kong, Disneyland, and Hawaii (especially with grandchildren.) Lois loved to read, especially the classics to her sons and grandchildren, and she played both the piano and accordion, and she insisted that her sons would all learn piano, which they did! Lois and Dell and their three sons were founding members of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in West Linn, where she even taught Sunday School, and she remained a loyal member there until she passed away. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and former students, but not forgotten.
