Larry Eugene Sparks' Obituary
Larry Eugene (Sparky) Sparks, 80, of Milwaukie, Oregon passed away October 10, 2022. He was born April 17, 1942 in Frankfort, Kansas to Howard and Wilma (McDonald) Sparks. His mother died in 1946, and his father later married Agatha Flin. Larry spent most of his youth growing up in Marysville, KS.
After high school, he served three years in the U.S. Army where he trained as a Film Library Specialist. He had many fond memories of army life, especially his time stationed in Alaska.
He married Barbara Troupe on December 19, 1964. They were happily married for 57 years.
He worked in the materials testing lab as a metallographer at Precision Castparts for 38 years, retiring in April 2005.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Oregon City, Oregon.
His hobbies included camping, fishing, and golf. His favorite spectator sports were football (Go Raiders!), basketball, and baseball.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey; his parents; and his brothers Duane Sparks and Riley Sparks.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons Derek Sparks and Steven Sparks; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers Douglas Flin and Ronald Sparks; sisters Elaine Bumgarner and Bonnie Beckman; his Aunt Ellen (Paul) Sparks; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He will be buried with Military Honors and a Committal Service at Willamette National Cemetery Monday October 17th at 9:45 a.m. Those planning to attend must arrive at the cemetery by 9:15 a.m. A church service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16000 S. Henrici Rd., Oregon City. Viewing is being held Thursday October 13th and Friday October 14th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
