Larry Earl GarvinJune 24, 1940 - August 25, 2013Larry passed away peacefully at his home on August 25, 2013, after a brave battle with cancer. Larry was born on June 24, 1940 in Hillsboro to Earl and Florence (Saunders) Garvin. Larry grew up in the Sherwood and Oregon City area with sisters Janice (Stan) Teadtke, Puyalllup, WA and Marilyn (LeeRoy) Thomas, Boring, Or. Larry graduated from Oregon City High where he met his wife, Sandra (Kendall). They were married in 1960. Larry served in the Army from 1961 to 1964, with time spent in Germany and So. Carolina.Larry began his career with Friedman Bag Co., Portland, in 1967, working as shipping clerk, Assistant Manager and General Manager. He later worked in sales and was active in the Oregon Seed Association, Oregon Feed & Grain, Oregon Seed Grower's League and the Pacific Seed Association. Larry continued his career as a sales manager for Seatac Packaging, Puyallup, WA, where he remained until his passing.Larry enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, annual trips to Palm Springs with family and spending time with his grandchildren, including watching their baseball, soccer and hockey games, and attending Winterhawk games. Larry passed his love of gardening on to his grandchildren with their annual garden at Papa's, including growing their own pumpkins for Halloween.Larry is survived by his beloved wife Sandra; his children Kimberley (Rick) Bell, Newberg, Or, and Derek (Penny) Garvin, Vancouver, WA; grandchildren Brenden , Kyle, Caroline and Heath. A Celebration of Life will be held at Abernethy Center on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at 11 AM.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd; Portland, OR 97239-3009.
