Kathleen Joann Styles' Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen Joann Styles, an amazing woman; a mother and grandmother who touched many lives with her warm and caring nature. Kathy was born January 30, 1956 to Mason Folsom and Marjorie Van Blokland (Folsom) at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, Oregon. She attended Hillsboro High School and went on to Phagans School of Hair Design to pursue her interest in cosmetology. She Married Loren Styles on May 18, 1985 and they would have two sons.
Although her earthly journey ended on October 16, 2024, her spirit continues to live in the hearts of her loved ones. Kathleen is survived by her boys, Jonathan Ross and Daniel Mason Styles, who were the cornerstones of her life. Her love for them was unconditional and profound, and her influence will continually shape their lives. A regular attendant in the Christian Church, Kathleen's faith played a central role in her life. Her deep spirituality was reflected in her love for scripture, which she read and meditated upon regularly. Her favorite music artists, Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith, inspired and comforted her through her toughest times. Kathleen’s involvement in community and caring for others extended beyond church; she was a dedicated volunteer at the McMinnville School District Education Foundation where her passion for helping others shone bright. She had a particular fondness for Mexican and Chinese cuisines, coffee, and Dr. Pepper which always seemed to add zest to her life. Art was another passion of Kathleen's. She was especially drawn to paintings and watercolors, finding solace and beauty in them. She was also an active supporter of the Linfield College Wildcats, where she proudly watched her son Jonathan graduate. Leisure times saw her watching music performances and dance recitals, engaging her creativity through artwork, and cultivating her mind through reading and writing poetry. Kathy played piano from a young age as well; she taught her son Daniel the basics when he was little, and together with her mother Marj, made sure he took lessons and supported his passion for playing. An avid walker and swimmer, Kathleen often sought refuge in the scenic locales of Eastern Oregon and Mt. Hood. She frequently visited local libraries, parks and took pleasure in watching trains, finding each of these places to offer their unique peace and tranquility. Kathleen's heart was as wide as her interests; she cared deeply for her friends, rehabilitation communities, her family, and her grandchildren Shay and Jolie Styles. She was socially vibrant, loving, loyal, persevering, and resilient. Her favorite color, green, subtly reflected her vivacious and life-embracing nature. Kathy would do anything for people around her. Perhaps the greatest lesson that Kathleen left behind is to be true to oneself, even amid struggles, to find meaning in life. Her accomplishments were many. She raised her children with utmost love and dedication and extended the same care to others struggling with substance addiction. Her legacy, however, is not confined to these accomplishments alone. Kathleen will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, and her infectious energy. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us as we navigate the journey of life. Kathy's beautiful spirit lives on in the House of The Lord.
