John Glenn Ray's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow we announce John Glenn Ray, age 63, passed away peacefully from a 17-year fight with brain cancer in his home overlooking the family farm on July 20, 2025.
John was born to George and Sylvia Ann Ray in Portland on February 20, 1962, the same day that his namesake John Glenn orbited the earth. In 1980, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.
John ran his own woodworking business and was especially known for his Adirondack chairs and Gazebo bird feeders. He also worked alongside his father managing the Ray Ranch on Sauvie Island. John retired in 2015 after 25 years working as a bartender at the Oregon Convention Center, where he met his wife DeLane and married in 2016.
John enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and traveling with DeLane. Their travels included trips to Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, visiting family, and attending Chiefs games. John fulfilled his life-long dream of attending the Super Bowl in Las Vegas with DeLane when the Chiefs won the title in 2023.
John is survived by his wife, DeLane Duvall, his father, George Ray Jr., his four siblings: George Ray the 3rd (Janet), Pam Ray Files (James), David Ray (Kathy) and Patty Hutchins (Jordan), and three step-children and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by Sylvia Ann Ray and his Niece Rose Langham. John was a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 23rd at Warren Community Fellowship in Warren, Oregon at 11am. In honor of his legacy as an avid outdoorsman, donations in John’s memory can be made to the Oregon Hunter’s Association – Youth Heritage Fund.
