Joan Lyle (Slover) Townsen
September 15, 1931 - June 6, 2017
Joan was born in Tahoka, Texas, the third of four children. She attended Texas Tech University for two years and graduated from Denver University with a BA degree in Education. Joan always sang in her church choir. She was a teacher and tutor in several Oregon school districts. Joan was a member of United Methodist Women. Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed doing the daily crossword puzzles. She truly enjoyed nature and her time spent oil painting. She lived the past 19 years at Rose Villa in Milwaukie, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. H. Dwight Townsen and her grand daughter Jeanne M. Castner. She is survived by her three children: Beverly J. Castner, Suzanne Townsen and Steven D. Townsen and her three grand children: James D. Castner, Cameron S. Townsen and Deena R. Townsen and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held July 29, 2017 at 2 pm at the Oregon City United Methodist Church located at 18955 S. South End Road, Oregon City, OR 97045-9750. Donations can be made to the Oregon City United Methodist Church or to the Rose Villa Foundation, 13505 SE River Road, Milwaukie, OR 97222-8223.
