Jarvis Charles Kime's Obituary
Jarvis Charles Kime of Beavercreek, Oregon passed away May 7, 2023, at the age of 85. He was born June 1, 1937, in the small community of Lenore, Idaho to Charley & Cecil (Garrison) Kime. Around 3 years old his family moved to Mulino, Oregon and a couple years later settled in Beavercreek, Oregon on what is now called Lewellen Road. He attended the Upper Highland, also known as South Highland School, for grade school. It was next door to his family home. Then one year at Oregon City High School before attending & graduating Molalla Union High School in 1956. His favorite classes were FFA & woodworking. It might have been sports, but he was too busy working on his family’s farm to be involved in sports.
He met Sandra Kay Kime who lived next door and had recently moved to Oregon from Michigan with her family. They married on August 20, 1958. He then bought that house and started his family with their first daughter Cetrelia (Cindy) Kay Hughes born on June 19, 1959. Andrea Marie Bowman followed 11 months later on May 22, 1960.
He started working for Clackamas County Road Department right out of high school on July 1, 1958. He worked his way up from a flagger to operating most of the large equipment & trucks. He retired on December 30, 1994, after 38 1/2 years.
He bought his parents’ 80-acre farm in the 60’s and raised Hereford cattle. He was a very hard worker, being employed with Clackamas County and being a farmer. There were always cows to feed, calves to be born, hay to bale, wood to cut and neighbors to help. Around 1984 he sold 25 acres to build a house across the road and spent his retirement days loving this land God had given him to care for.
He was always involved in church whether it be the Assembly of God church next door to his home growing up, Lower Highland Bible Church for most of his life, Fellowship Bible Church, Living Hope Church, or Foothills Community Church formerly Lower Highland Bible Church. Jarvis & Sandra were youth group helpers, young couples’ leaders, led Sunday evening singing, drove a school bus to Billy Graham crusades in Portland & bus trips to play in the snow at Mt. Hood, etc. He was known for being a great director of parking cars during various church events.
He loved playing on church basketball & softball teams and cheering for the Oregon Ducks & Beavers.
He loved his deer & elk hunting trips with his brother-in-law, friends & neighbors. He loved to go to the coast and dig clams & take his boat crabbing with friends & family.
His life was never the same after losing his wife of 27 ½ years to cancer. He did re-marry Joyce Moorthy on December 27, 1991.
He did some traveling with his family in his retirement years. A couple trips to Hawaii when his daughters lived there; trips to Florida to visit Andrea & Kevin; a cruise to Alaska; a vacation to Yellowstone; a vacation to Las Vegas & the Grand Canyon; a family reunion in Colorado and seeing Pikes Peak. He seemed to mostly like being home on his beautiful property overlooking Mt. Hood.
In 2011 he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He did very well for most of those years. In January 2020 Andrea moved from Florida to help him. Her husband followed in May of 2021. His last 6 weeks were at McLoughlin Place Memory Care in Oregon City. Hospice assisted the last 7 days.
Jarvis is preceded in death by his parents Charley Kime & Cecil Miller, first wife Sandra Kime, oldest daughter Cetrelia (Cindy) Hughes and sisters Luella Willis, Katherine Borland & Elsie Biggs.
He is survived by his daughter Andrea (Kevin) Bowman and 2 younger sisters Janet Cornelius & Betty Wallace of Wilsonville and his wife Joyce of Oregon City.
