James "Jim" D. Chiodo's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of James D Chiodo (Jim) who passed away peacefully in his home on October 29, 2024, surrounded by his wife and family.
Jim was born December 11,1923 in Boring, Oregon to Italian immigrants, Gabriel Chiodo and Louisa Grillo Chiodo. Jim graduated from St. Agatha's Catholic School in Sellwood, OR and immediately joined the US Marine Corps, serving his country as Corporal in the Military Police during WWII 1943-1946. During this time, Jim was on the USMC boxing team with a record of 18-3.
After returning home from the war, Jim married the love of his life, Florence Beach. Florence and Jim celebrated 78 years of marriage earlier this year. He is survived by their son, James Michael (Pam), grandson Marcus (Angie), grandson Ryan, and two great granddaughters Eva and Lucia.
Jim worked for many years at Portland Laundry and Dry Cleaning before founding his own company, JC Laundry and Dry Cleaning. After building a successful business, he retired as its proud owner. While Jim achieved much in his career, his greatest accomplishment was his family. In his final days, he frequently said, "I am so proud of my family, and I love them more than you can know."
Jim was loved by all who knew him, and those who were fortunate enough to call him family or friend would agree that he was one of the most honest, brave, and loving men they had ever known. His sharp sense of humor and deep wisdom brought warmth and laughter into every room. Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather—roles he cherished with all his heart. His legacy of love, integrity, and joy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will forever be loved, remembered, and deeply missed.
Military honors will be held at Willamette National Veterans Cemetery on December 6, 2024, at 10:00 am.
