Jack Chitty's Obituary
Jack Chitty was born to Buell Morgan Chitty and Hazel Durham Chitty on October 13, 1934 in Marion,
Illinois. He lived his early years in Rock Falls and Peoria.
He graduated from Woodruff High School in 1952 where he was senior class president. He played
football and baseball and was a member of National Honor Society. He earned his B.S. degree at
Bradley University while working summers in construction and at Caterpillar Co. in Peoria.
He earned his M.D. at University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago followed by residencies in
cardiology and internal medicine at DC General Hospital and in Chicago.
He was drafted into the US Army and served two years at Ft. Lawton Army Hospital in Seattle where he
learned to love the Pacific Northwest.
He entered medical practice at the McLean Clinic in Oregon City in 1965 and practiced there until his
retirement in 1998. He was responsible for setting up the first cardiac intensive care unit in Clackamas
County at Willamette Falls Hospital. He lived in Mulino and then in West Linn.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mimi Chitty, his children Andy Chitty(Aniko), Dr. Julia Kavanagh
(Dr. Brian), Lisa Ford (Doug), and their mother June Haddox; step-daughters Julia Pratt (Dana), Emily
Dischinger, Rachel Bley (Hans); 14 grandchildren Amanda, lan, Thomas, Clare, Bazsi Sam, Michael,
Hannah, Daniel, Alex, David, Anna, Grace and Elsa.
Jack was known and loved for his wit, warm compassion and his expertise at many hobbies including
woodworking, poetry writing, cooking, gardening and playing the banjo. Jack was a loyal fan of the St.
Louis Cardinals and West Linn Lions Football.
Jack was an eight year survivor of pancreatic cancer. He died on August 5th in Milwaukie where he had
recently moved.
Services will be held at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in West Linn on August 15 at 11 am. Interment
will be at Wolf Creek Cemetery near Carbondale, IL where his parents, grandparents and a host of
relatives are buried.
The family suggests donations to Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in West Linn, The Founders Clinic in
Oregon City, The Children's Center, or the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
