Henrietta Morganthau Bjerke's Obituary
Henrietta Morganthau (Ireland) BjerkeSeptember 16, 1915 - October 19, 2013 Henrietta M. Bjerke of Oregon City died peacefully in her sleep Oct.19 from natural causes at the age of 98. She was born in Fishkill, New York on Sept. 16, 1915 to William and Mary Plankenhorn. During her childhood years she lived on a dairy farm in NY, eventually moving to the West Coast in 1947 with her husband, Edward Ireland and their small child, Bill. She had remained in the West Linn/Oregon City area for the past 66 years. For many years she worked at the Paper Mill, until retiring. In her retirement years she kept busy as a volunteer at her church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Oregon City, in addition to volunteering at Willamette Falls Hospital until the age of 88. One could say that Henrietta never had idle hands. Up until two months ago she was always busy crocheting scarves, lap blankets, pillow covers, Tissue box holders, and many other items. It would be pretty difficult to find any friend of hers that did not have at least one item that was made by her. Needless to say she was a very loving and generous lady. She is survived by her son, Bill Ireland (Mary), step-sons, John Bjerke (Carolyn Dowling), Mike Bjerke (Heidi), Gene Bjerke (Jean), step-daughter, Linda Creech, granddaughter, Elizabeth Self (Philip), sister, Louise Brooks; and niece, Brenda Olsen. Her service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16000 S. Henrici Road, Oregon City, Friday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m.
