George Isao Sato's Obituary
George Sato was born Isao Sato in rural Yamagata Prefecture, Japan On September 6, 1942 When he was a teenager, he left the farm for the bright lights and big city and always told everyone he was from Tokyo. He moved to Oregon in the 70's to make a new life for himself and never left. He lived in Texas for a short time before coming to Portland, working initially in a sushi restaurant in downtown. Then, he taught Japanese at Portland State University for several years and later for the Estacada School district. He died at about 3:30 PM July 3rd at his home in West Linn of suspected liver failure. He was 73. George has no surviving relatives in Japan and so his friends will hold a "sushi party" in his honor.
