Geneva E. Wilson Smith
Geneva E. Wilson Smith, 92, of Milwaukee and Carver, OR passed away Friday, June 10, 2016 at Royalton Place senior living. Geneva was born in Portland May 24, 1924 to Raymond Herbert Wilson and Alta Geneva Lim Wilson. She grew up in North Portland with older siblings Orion Lim Wilson and Colleen Fay Wilson, attending Portsmouth Elementary and Roosevelt High School. For one year her family lived in Colton, OR where she attended Colton Elementary school. As a young woman, Geneva was crowned Queen of the Portland Gold and Green Ball sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. On May 25, 1943 Geneva married LaRoy Melchoir Smith in Portland. They first lived in the Vanport apartments before the devastating flood struck the area. Later, they built a home in Milwaukee before building a lovely home on the Clackamas River near his parent's park. Roy's parents were Arthur and Rose Smith of Carver. The Smith family heritage goes back to Berne, Switzerland and the Wilson's to England. Geneva and Roy were parents of Steven Brent Smith (1946-1982) and Janet Gay Smith (1948-) who grew up along the Clackamas River as their father had done. For years, Roy and Geneva were half owners of Oregon City Redy-Mix. Geneva had many interests including sewing, making women's hats, reading, oil painting, playing the piano, and traveling. She is survived by one daughter, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Geneva was deeply loved by fourteen nieces and nephews from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Nevada.
