Gene Harold Suter's Obituary
Mr. Gene Harold Suter of Milwaukie Oregon passed on September 16, 2012 at home from heart disease at the age of 70. He was born in Lancaster Pennsylvania, on Friday March 13, 1942. He grew up in Reading Pennsylvania, his stepfather was a foundry worker and they lived in a row house that was next to the foundry. He would talk about how when they first moved in the outhouse was what they would use until about a year later an addition was put on the back of the house and they had indoor plumbing. He loved going to his cousins farm and helping with the making of scrapple, and stirring the large pots that hung over a outdoor fire. He laugh when he finally figured out they had him stirring after the corn meal was added to the pork mixture, because of how thick it would get the longer it cooked. He said his arms felt like they were on fire themselves and ready to fall off. This is also where he learned to fish. He and his cousins would fish every chance they had. His stepfather would often take him fishing on the Susquehanna River where they also built a cabin. He graduated from Reading High School in 1960 and went straight into the Air force. He was stationed in Portland Oregon where he met and married his first wife, Kathleen. Soon a daughter was born Debra Kim and then a son Steven Michael. At this time they were living in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He moved the family back to Oregon where he went to work for Scoop Mobile. He later went to work in a managerial position at Air Oil Products. In August of 1984 he married, Robin "Bobbie" Nibler in Maui Hawaii. Gene loved to work with wood, making just about anything out of anything, and fishing. His last big project was building a pump house for a friend with his stepson Bryon. It took him two weeks but it is some pump house. He joined the Oregon City Elks in 1989 and was Exalted Ruler 1991-1992, 1995-1996, and a Trustee. He loved every facet of the organization. He is preceded in death by his son Steven Suter.
