Frieda Lukovich's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Frieda Lukovich, who left this world on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, to enter eternally in Heaven. She was reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Dushan Lukovich, whom she had missed so dearly since his passing last October. Their love was unwavering, spanning 63 years of marriage, and now, they are together once more.
Frieda was born on June 6, 1941, in Antunovac, in the former Yugoslavia. She was raised in Germany during the height of World War II, where she learned at an early age the meaning of resilience and hard work. As a young woman, she and her family came to North America as refugees, first settling in Canada before making their way to the United States, where she built a life defined by love, strength, and sacrifice.
She met Dushan in Southern California, the man who would become her husband, and together they built a home filled with love and unwavering devotion. Frieda was the best mother that two sons, Tom and Steven, could ever ask for. They were honored to be her sons, just as she was honored to be their mother. She sacrificed everything for her family—without hesitation, without question. Material things meant nothing to her compared to the well-being of her loved ones, and she always put her family first, even when it meant enduring hardship herself.
Though she was small and delicate in stature, Frieda had a spirit of steel. She would stand up to anything and anyone to protect the people she loved. As a homemaker, she took on the most important and noble role in the world—raising her sons into men and shaping their character with her boundless love and wisdom. Before dedicating herself to her family full-time, she worked as an EKG technician, assisting physicians in the 1960s.
Frieda was talented and creative, sewing and knitting clothes for her family, a skill she carried with pride. She also had a passion for painting and needlepoint in her earlier years. In addition to caring for her home and loved ones, she valued her friendships deeply, remaining close with her dearest friends throughout her life. She and Dushan traveled often with their closest friends, making cherished memories along the way. Frieda also gave back to her community, volunteering her time at historic community centers and voting centers, always committed to serving others.
Most importantly, Frieda was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother—affectionately known as “Oma” to her grandchildren. Her legacy is one of strength, sacrifice, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we are jealous of the Angels who now have the privilege of being in her company.
She is survived by her sons, Tom and Steven, her daughters-in-law, Suzanne and Summer, and her four granddaughters, Sophia, Olivia, Madigan, and Kalista. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dushan Lukovich, with whom she now rests in eternal peace.
