Evalois Alberta Ruth King's Obituary
Evalois Alberta Ruth King (née Haugerud), 99, of West Linn, passed away on September 2nd after a long and fulfilling life.
Evalois was born on August 20th, 1925, in Old Sanish, North Dakota, and spent the majority of her childhood in nearby Stanley. She was the eldest daughter of Albert Oscar Haugerud and Esther Carol Runyon Haugerud. Her brother, Albert Ralph “Bud” Haugerud, and sister, Esther Donna Lou Haugerud Duncan preceded her in death. Her family relocated to Redland, Oregon near Oregon City, where Evalois completed her senior year at Oregon City High School in 1943. While attending college, at Lewis & Clark and Pacific University, she worked at the Kaiser shipyards in Portland as a driver for special errands.
Evalois married Arnold Leonard King on July 24th, 1948, and during their 32 years of marriage, they had four children: Karen, Lamont, Evakay, and Cynthia.
In 1991, Evalois retired from the West Linn School District and dedicated her time to care for her grandkids, attending school events, cooking meals, baking cookies, and crafting. She generously shared her love of ice cream, the art of lefse making, freshly picked raspberry jam, and homemade quilts. In recent years she enjoyed coloring books, walking, and crossword puzzles. Evalois was a regular at West Linn Lutheran Church, and a volunteer at Willamette Falls Hospital for 15 years.
Evalois will be remembered for her generosity, warmth, and dedication to those she loved.
She is survived by her four children and daughter in-law Denise Hartung King, as well as her three grandchildren: Alyssa Marie King (Moore), Lorne Michael King, and Jenna Leigh King (Harder). Evalois was blessed to have met four of her great grandchildren: Matilda Moore, Liam King, and twins Amelia and Samantha Moore.
A memorial service will be held at West Linn Lutheran Church on October 1st, 2024, at 2:00pm with an ice cream social following the service. The memorial service will be broadcasted live on the church’s website (WLLC.ORG) for those unable to attend in-person.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Providence Willamette Falls Medical Foundation Volunteer Services.
