Elisabeth Staats-Shovlin's Obituary
Elisabeth Staats, 84, passed away on Saturday evening, July 20, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She went from the loving arms of her family to the loving arms of Jesus, to begin a new life with her Lord. Elisabeth was born on November 12, 1928 in Germany to parents Karl and Maria Goetz, and was the youngest of three children. She attended school until the 8th grade, when her school was bombed. She attended business school, and worked as a secretary for the US Motor Pool.Elisabeth was preceded in death by her brother Karl, and her sister Annie. She still has nieces, great nieces, and cousins still living in Germany, as well as a cousin living in Oklahoma. She met John Hogan, in 1949 and they were married in 1952. Elisabeth moved to the United States with her daughter Maria later that same year. She and John were married for 26 years before cancer took his life at 52 years. A few years later she met Dick, and they enjoyed married life for 8 years, before he passed away at age 59. She later met and married Hubert Shovlin and they were together 14 years until his death in 2009. Elisabeth was an office manager for W.T. Grant department store, at the Oregon City shopping center, for 11 1/2 years, before quitting work to embrace her role as "grandma". Elisabeth loved her family very much and was a proud mother of her only child Maria and her son in law Bruce Brown Sr.; grandmother to Bruce Brown and his wife Joyce, and Michele Ritter and her husband Keith.Her great grandchildren Ian Brown 15, Lauren Brown 13, Emma Ritter 4, Brooklyn Ritter 2, and step grandchildren Ben Ritter 17, and Abby Ritter 14, were the light of her life. She was always so full of life and enjoyed traveling, shopping with friends, dancing, bowling, slot machines, playing cards and dice games. She will be terribly missed, and eternally loved by all her family and friends.
