Earnest Anthony Gerkman's Obituary
ERNEST ANTHONY GERKMAN
DOB: January 28, 1924, DOD: January 2, 2016
Ernest was born in Oregon City and lived his entire life here. He left high school in 1942 after having completed two years, and then went to work in the shipyards. On March 12, 1943, Ernest entered the US Army and then was discharged November 13, 1945 after serving his country in Germany during WWII. He was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.
Ernest married Elizabeth Hanlon in 1954. They had two children, Mary Elizabeth and Ernest Anthony Jr. His wife Elizabeth passed away in 1967. Then in 1970 he married Lois Saunders. They were later divorced and she has since passed.
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents James and Mary Gerkman, brothers James Gerkman, Ludwig Gerkman, Frank Gerkman --sisters Rose Planton, Cecelia Blais and Jennie Schnack. He is survived by son Ernest Anthony Jr. (Tony) Daughter Mary Elizabeth Dyal (Patrick), Brother Stanley Gerkman, Stepson Mike Gerkman (Cindi) Stepdaughter Patricia Provencia, Special Nephew Larry Hanlon (Kerry). His grandchildren are Beth Dyal, Sandy (David), Bill Dyal, Saul Dyal, Tim Gerkman, Rick Gerkman, Diane Brown, Lisa Johnson (Melvin) Gina Provencia, 26 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. There are numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be said on Saturday, January 9th at 11:00AM at St. John the Apostle in Oregon City, Oregon. Committal will take place immediately following Mass at St. John's Cemetery.
