Dorothy Jean Dicken's Obituary
Dorothy Jean Dicken
08/21/1932 - 12/08/2015
The journey of Dorothy Jean (Honey) Dicken began on August zr', 1932. She grew up with her loving family in Portland, attending Glencoe Elementary and graduating from Grant High School in 1950. The majority of her working career was spent as a trust officer at US Bank. Dorothy married her true companion, Walt Dicken, in August 1971. The couple enjoyed an adventure-filled 44 years. Together they raised their daughter in SE Portland.
Dorothy enjoyed many summers at the McKenzie River, first with her grandparents and parents, then passing her love for that area on to her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, as well as many other friends and family. Dorothy wrote about her early memories on the river and was published by a local author. Dorothy and Walt owned a cabin, Waltsandots, on the river's banks.
Dorothy and Walt were able to live their dream of retiring to Kona, Hawaii where they shared their warm hospitality with family and friends. The couple never missed a sunset. Dorothy and Walt enjoyed traveling and took the cruise of a lifetime across the Pacific to Australia.
After a fierce battle with cancer, Dorothy found peace on the morning of December 8th with her daughter by her side holding her hand. Dorothy will be remembered for her fabulous sense of humor and creativeness, her dedication to family and friends, her genuineness and thoughtfulness, her talented green thumb, her amazing talents in the kitchen, and her love for reading, writing, and learning. She is survived by her husband, Walt, daughter, Sandy, son-in-law, Donavin, granddaughter, McKenzie and many members of her extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Dorothy's honor on 2pm Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Oswego Point Riverside Recreation Room. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Oregon City.
