Doris Naomi Schoenborn's Obituary
After living to see her 95th birthday, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and long-time Salem resident Doris Naomi Schoenborn quietly passed away at home in Milwaukie, Oregon, on June 5, 2014. Born to Ellis E. and Lelah Belle (Smith) Brown on June 3, 1919 in Canby, Oregon, as the second of four girls, Doris graduated from Canby High School (1937) and graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics (1941). On November 21, 1941, Doris married fellow Oregon State graduate Arthur Frank Schoenborn, with whom she had three children.Doris' relationship with God, her husband, and family were a key part of her life. She taught children's Sunday School, was a 4-H leader, and conducted Good News Clubs with Child Evangelism Fellowship. With their parent's permission, Art and Doris took many children to church, carrying as many as 23 children at one time (before the advent of seatbelts) and more than 100 children throughout the years.Passionate about flower and vegetable gardening, Doris planned all of the landscaping for their property and cared for their greenhouse, orchard, and vegetable garden, canning or freezing much of the produce for the family to eat in winter. An accomplished cook, baker, and seamstress, Doris took great joy in providing for her family and living off the land. All who knew her could appreciate the care she took to live a healthy, balanced life, for herself, family, God, and others. Doris was preceded in death by Arthur Schoenborn, her husband of almost 72 years, her parents Ellis and Lelah Brown, son Roger Schoenborn, and sisters Belle Elmer and Ida Mae Ellis.
