Donald Francis Serres, DVMApril 21, 1934 - June 3, 2013Dr. Donald (Don) F. Serres was born April 21, 1934 in Oregon City to Ted and Nellie Serres.Don graduated from McLoughlin grade school in 1948, Oregon City High School in 1952, Oregon State University in 1956, and Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1960. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Captain. In 1962 he entered private veterinary practice with the Oregon City Veterinary clinic, specializing in large animal care. He was highly regarded in his profession and in 1963 was awarded a Humanitarian award for the rescue of a horse stranded on a ledge above the flooded Clackamas River. Later he practiced in Canby and Roseburg, Oregon. Throughout his life Don enjoyed outdoor activities - horse back trail riding, hunting and fishing. Don is survived by his two brothers Jim (Corene) and David (Lorraine); four nieces, Janet Serres, Janine (Glenn) Jacobs, Susie(Paul) Dedyo, Julie (Trent) Morrell; three nephews, David (Anita) Serres, Michael (Donna) Serres and Ted (Elaina) Serres. He was preceded in death by nephew Chuck Serres. Rosary will be said at 10:30, Wednesday, June 12th at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Oregon City. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to St. John the Apostle School.
