David W. Herd Jr's Obituary
David W. Herd Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, February 7, 2013 at age 92. He was born March 18, 1920 in Oregon City, and graduated from Oregon City High School in 1938. He enlisted In the National Guard in 1939, joining Company D 186th INF, 41st Infantry Division. The unit was inducted into Federal service in 1940 at Fort Lewis, Washington. David married Elaine Johnson of Colton January 9, 1942 and shipped out to the South Pacific 3 months later. Returning home in 1945 they settled in Oregon City and raised 4 children. After working in retail grocery for many years, he then became a salesman/driver for 7 Up Bottling company retiring in 1982. David was involved in the PTA and was an active member of St. Stephens Lutheran for several years. He joined the ELKS in 1973 and became Exalted Ruler of the Milwaukie Lodge in 1993. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine and son David and is survived by his daughters Leslie and Becki,son Eric, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 13, 1pm at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Gladstone, OR.
