Clarence C. Dietrich
Clarence C. Dietrich was born in McLaughlin, South Dakota on September 18th 1935 to parents Constantine and Pauline Dietrich. They had seven children, all boys, Clarence was the youngest. He passed away unexpectedly on March 17th , 2023 in Oregon City, Oregon at the age of 87.
Clarence was raised predominantly around farming and ranching. He graduated from McLaughlin High School and also completed one year of college prior to enlisting in the United States Army. He served for 4 years in Germany as a Private First-Class Intermediate Speed Radio Operator. Upon returning from his military service, Clarence returned to his roots and avidly pursued his passion for rodeo. He was a very skilled bull rider and calf roper, earning All-Around Cowboy honors at the Fort Yates Rodeo held in North Dakota.
In 1966, Clarence relocated to the Portland, Oregon area and 2 years later, June 1st 1968, he married his wife Juanita Albee of Madras, Oregon. Prior to his passing, they were married for 54 years and had two children David and Niki. In 1971 they relocated to Redland, Oregon. Redland is a small, rural community in Clackamas County which gave them opportunity to raise cattle on their land which they still own today. He was also a member of the Riders of the Cascades Club which featured local events such as Team Roping and Play Days at the arena. Clarence worked a few jobs before he settled on a career as local route truck driver for Fleming Foods. At the culmination of his working years, Clarence drove well over 20 years before finally retiring in October of 1997. Clarence was a hard working, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved bull riding, team roping, fishing, hunting, playing pool, and bird watching. Most of all he loved his cattle and watching rodeo on TV. There wasn’t a day that passed that he wasn’t watching a rodeo, old or new.
Clarence was a man that was loved by everyone that encountered him, he made many friends because of his sense of humor and kind, easygoing nature. He is survived by his son Troy (and Dawn), daughter Casey (both from a previous marriage), wife Juanita, son David, daughter Niki (and Mike), numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
