Charley Glen Wallis
9/2/23 - 11/10/17
Charley was born on September 2, 1923 in Ogallah, Kansas to Charles Sr. & Clara Wallis. He was the oldest of 5 brothers. The Wallis family moved to Silverton, Oregon in the late 1930's when Charley was a teenage boy, where he grew up, attended school, and worked on the family farm. Charley served in the 42nd Engineer Construction Battalion of the US Army in the Philippines constructing roads and air strips for several years in the early 1940's. He was honorably discharged in April 1946. After returning from the military, Charley worked for Westphal Engineering before starting his long career as Plant Manager of Freightliner's parts manufacturing plant on Swan Island in Portland where he worked for over 25 years, before retiring in 1981.
He met the love of his life and wife, Doris Troxel from Oregon City in 1949, and they were married on May 12, 1951 - 65 years, before her death in October 2016. Charley is survived by his son Michael Wallis of Astoria, Oregon, brother Harold Wallis of Gladstone, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.
In retirement, Charley enjoyed woodworking and carpentry and remodeled the interior of his family home along with doing many odd "Mr. Fix It" jobs for neighbors and family friends. He loved spending time at their beach home in Otter Rock, Oregon where he and his wife would often vacation.
Charley was an active parishioner of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Oregon City since 1950, served on the St. John's Cemetery committee for over 50 years, and was a 4th degree member in the Knights of Columbus Council of Oregon City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions designated for the Cemetery Fund may be made to St John the Apostle Catholic Church in Oregon City.
