Carolyn Audrey Grassman's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Carolyn Audrey Grassman
June 18, 1951 – September 26, 2023
Carolyn Audrey Grassman passed away in the comfort of her Oregon City home on September 26, 2023 after battling complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Born on June 18, 1951, in Woodburn, Oregon, Carolyn was the 10th of 13 children of Harold and Phyllis Smith. She grew up in Gervais, Oregon, where she met the love of her life, Doug, during high school. In 1970, they exchanged vows and went on to raise their family of three children in West Linn, Oregon, and Southern California.
Carolyn was a dedicated stay-at-home mom who later transitioned into a preschool teacher once her children were all in school. She had a passion for family, friends, and adventure. Carolyn fearlessly tackled running and walking marathons, engaged in relay races, experienced the thrill of skydiving, kayaking, zip-lining, and white-water rafting—all while sharing laughter, smiles, and occasionally, a colorful word or two. In her later years, Carolyn found her greatest joy in the company of her three grandchildren, showering them with all the love in her heart.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Doug, her son Marc and daughter-in-law Jill, her grandsons Henry and Charles, her granddaughter Lydia, her daughters Emily and Amanda, her son-in-law Jason, and six siblings.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will take place at Willamette Christian Church on Saturday, October 7th at 2:00 pm, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in memory of Carolyn to the National Alzheimer’s Association, http://www.alz.org. Cards and donation notifications can be sent to:
