Carol Jane Vandeberghe's Obituary
Carol Jane Vandeberghe was born in Oregon City, Oregon on May 2, 1927 and passed away on January 22, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a loyal friend to many. Carol was the daughter of Henry and Gertrude Kerbs and lived in Oregon City all her formative years where she met her husband Robert (Bob) at Oregon City High School. Carol and Bob were married for 67 years and lived together in their family home in West Linn for 50 years where they raised their two daughters, Lana Cupper and Linda Norton. Carol is survived by her loving husband, Bob, their two daughters, two grandchildren, Carrie and Casey and one great-granddaughter, Savannah.
Carol worked outside the home all her life, even while raising a family and being a wonderful homemaker. She was always busy, never sitting still, always creative with, tending her home, children, garden, and many craft projects she'd create. When her daughters were young shed create beautiful doll cakes for their birthday parties which were always a big hit. Carol loved to entertain family and friends and always created a fun loving environment that people gravitated to. Memories of holidays with family, camping at King Fisher, road trips with their motor home and then their 5th wheel kept them active and busy
Carol and Bob retired when they were 54 and 55 and never looked back. Family and friends were always a huge part of their lives and they enjoyed many vacations always shared with family and friends. Traveling included road trips, cruises & vacations to Mexico, Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Jamaica and other destinations. After living in West Linn for 50 years in the same family home, they moved to Oregon City where they enjoyed their retirement years until moving to Homewoods on the Willamette, a Senior Living Community, in 2007.
Carol will be remembered as a gracious, courage lady who always had a smile on her face. She fought cancer on and off for over 28 years with grace and dignity, never willing to give up or be depressed. Her outlook was always rosy, often wearing her rose colored glasses in the face of adversity.
Carol and Bob were members of Zion Lutheran Church where Carol was baptized, confirmed and married. A private family graveside service will be held Thursday at Mountain View Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 11AM at Zion Lutheran Church.
