Carol Ann Still's Obituary
Carol Ann Still
August 7th, 1932- January 27th, 2017
Carol Still was born on August 7th, 1932 to Edgar and Josephine Stisser in Park Place, Oregon at her grandparents' home. She was the oldest of four children, Shirley Tiedke, Leah Hinkle and Dale Stisser. Carol and her family lived at Park Place until she was 13 when they moved to West Linn where she attended and graduated from West Linn High school.
Carol being the oldest was frequently given the responsibility of watching her younger siblings and she enjoyed going for walks with them, taking them to hair appointment set and spending time with them. As they all got older and began having families of their own, they all remained close, enjoying family reunions, holiday celebrations, birthday parties and getting together "just because they wanted to".
Prior to meeting Vernon Still, Carol had been married for a brief time and in 1958, she gave birth to a son, Earl A Christman on November 12th and since she was unable to have more children, he became her heart and soul. During this time Carol worked at Smuckers when it was located at its first shop on Beavercreek Road in Oregon City. Through a meet and greet set-up by her sister Leah Hinkle and friends Anita Ward, Carol met Vernon Still at a Christmas function put on by Oregon City Evangelical. Theirs was a short courtship of nine months from meeting December 1963, engaged February 24th, 1964 and married on her birthday August 7th, 1964. She left her job at Smuckers and became a homemaker, taking excellent care of her husband and son for the remainder of her life.
Carol loved to go on vacation and she spent wonderful times traveling to Yellowstone Park, going on beach and fishing trips, going to Disneyland, and many other wonderful trips with family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was playing games with family and friends and her favorite game was Skippo which she would play any chance she could.
Carol loved the Lord, at 16 years old, she invited the Lord into her heart and was baptized at the old Oregon City Christian Church. She looked forward to bible studies times and would look to the bible for comfort and guidance. When she began attending Oregon City Evangelical, she became involved, helping out whenever the need arose. She had a loving Christ like soul and would go out of her way to help others. She loved people and people loved her, if anyone needed help, she would go out of her way to help even financially.
Carols joy was made complete when her son met and married his wife Jennifer Lewis who had two younger daughters, Caila and Shauna. Carol loved Jennifer as if she was her own daughter and Jennifer loved and cared for Carol as if she were her own mother, Jennifer would frequently come to her home and have tea with her and at times just would come up to visit on her lunchbreak. Her granddaughters Caila and Shauna were the apples of her eye and they loved each other with all their hearts. She enjoyed it when they spent the weekend with her, playing games, cooking, visiting and just enjoying each other's company. According to family and friends, Carol always talked about her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters with fondness in her voice.
Carol is survived by her sister Leah Hinkle, brother, Dale Stisser, son Earl Christman, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Christman, granddaughters, Caila Leaneagh and Shauna Millard and great-granddaughter, Victoria Millard
