Betty Elaine Lakey's Obituary
Betty Elaine Kaplan Lakey was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 2, 1933. She passed away peacefully two weeks after her 82 birthday on November 19, 2015 at her home in Rose Villa, Milwaukie, OR. Her son Bill and her husband of 63 years, Richard, were there to keep her company when she passed.
Betty had a very interesting and fulfilling life. Betty and Dick traveled all around the US when he was in the Air Force for 20 years. Betty received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Wyoming in Home Economics and Teaching in 1966 while raising 5 children, 1 girl and 4 boys. She taught middle school when they lived in Montana and started a whole new career in the food industry after they moved to Gladstone, OR in 1974 when Dick retired from the Air Force.
Betty received her Master's Degree in Liberal Studies at Reed College in 1980 and then earned her credentials as a Registered Dietician. She worked as a consultant in the food industry until her retirement in 1995. Betty and Dick then traveled for 5 years throughout the US, Canada and Mexico in their RV. They really enjoyed that time and then they moved to Rose Villa in 2000. They continued to travel the world for the next 10 years.
She is survived by her husband Richard, her children Becky, Casey (daughter-in-law Jenny) and Bill along with 7 grandchildren, Tyler, Sarah, Nick, Brian, Katie, Rowan and Willow. She was a friendly, smart, dynamic, memorable woman and will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
