Bernard Allen Ekerson's Obituary
Bernard (Barney) was born to Godfrey & Frances Ekerson in West Linn, Oregon. At age 90 he passed away at home surrounded by the love and support of his cherished family. Barney graduated from West Linn High School in 1940, and he worked for Columbia Aircraft shortly after High School. He joined the army in 1944 and served in Germany during WWII as a combat engineer until 1946. When the war ended he worked for Albert Bernert Towing on tugboats hauling log rafts through the locks at Oregon City on the Willamette River. In 1961, Barney began a career at Tektronix and he worked there 25 years until he retired in 1986. The loves of life were woodworking, fishing, camping and family gatherings. Barney married Helen Lorraine Latham on Aug 2, 1952. In 1954, he built the house where they raised their family. Barney is survived by his loving wife Lorraine. This summer they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with the family. He is also survived by 3 daughters, Karen Dubord (Lyle) of BC, Canada, Jean Avison (Bill), Julie Doolittle (Mark) of Tennessee; and 5 sons, David (Julie), Jim (Jill), Jeff (Laura), Tom (Dawn), Michael; a brother Jon Michael Ekerson. There are 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 11:00 am at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Oregon City. Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 10:30 am, prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to - St Vincent DePaul, Elks Lodge in Oregon City, or Signature Hospice, 25117 SW Parkway Ave #F, Wilsonville, OR 97070.
