Benjamin P. Gomena's Obituary
Benjamin P. Gomena
October 22, 1995 - October 25, 2024
Benjamin Paul Gomena, 29, passed suddenly at his home in West Linn, Oregon, on Friday, October 25, 2024. He was born to Peter and Donna Gomena in Portland, Oregon on October 22, 1995, moments after the birth of his twin brother, Sam.
In childhood, Ben developed a love of the Oregon Coast during the family’s frequent trips to visit his grandparents there. He enjoyed fishing, usually catching the biggest fish of the day, and he loved a good float down the Clackamas River on a sunny afternoon.
The great joys in Ben’s life were his friends and his love of games of all types. Ben loved to play, on-line, with family around a board or card game, and for the past few years with a cadre of friends and acquaintances around a poker table. He had a quick mind for odds and statistics, and steeped himself in the lore of the game. He liked to play the free games for fun, never taking the wins or losses too seriously. It was the ups and downs of cards, players’ personalities, skills, and luck that kept him coming back.
Ben graduated from West Linn High School in 2014. He attended Portland Community College and later the University of Oregon, where he bolstered his love of movies by majoring in film studies. He was proud to be hired as a mail carrier shortly before his death.
Tall, friendly, and quick with a smile or a keen observation, Ben is greatly missed by his friends and family. He is remembered for his kindness and his love for animals. He is survived by his parents and brother, aunts Julie Gomena and Dale Compton, and several cousins.
Inurnment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Oregon City. A private memorial is pending.
