I met the Schoenborn's as just a little girl. I did the math and he was 62. I can't imagine how many kids they led to the Lord before me. One day my neighbor friend invited me to church, so I went, and here came Mr. and Mrs. Schoenborn in a big blue van and took us kids to Labish Center Church. Doris taught us bible stories with felt story boards while Art taught Adult Sunday school classes. When we met, I was 8 years old, my sister Shelly was 3 and my sister Kristin wasn't even born yet. He drove a carload of kids to and from church for years. And fast I might add. Not only on Sundays but everytime the doors were open. We were definitely held accountable! They had a chart and kept track of our attendance and when we got 10 stars we were invited to their house. Now that, was exciting! Doris always made Spaghetti. Then we played games in their basement such as 99, ping pong and table hockey. If it was nice out we would explore their 15 acres, catch crawdads in the creek and eat grapes, kiwis, figs, apples, walnuts and drink their famous homemade grape juice. Those are some great memories! He always told us he loved us. He always told us how proud of us he was. He's always been there. Always loving, and supportive. He read scripture at my wedding, 20 years ago which meant the world to me. This past year when my sisters and I would go over to help, he would always offer us something even though we were there to help him. We tried to help anyway we could. It was the least we could do. We could never repay them for what they have done for us. They are the reason we have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. They lead us to the Lord along with countless other children. He was a mighty Oak of Righteousness, and led by example. We loved him very much! I am just so Thankful that God lead them to us. I am Thankful for Art Schoenborn! ~Leanna Christensen Eckstein
