In Loving Memory

Miriam Elizabeth Bettis Martin “Beth”

September 9, 1946-December 15, 2020

Beth was born September 9, 1946 at the Oregon City Hospital and passed away peacefully on December 15, 2020 from a brain aneurysm, surrounded by her loving family.  Beth was raised in the Canby community and graduated from Canby High School.  She attended Willamette University. She was previously married and raised two children, Terry and Shelley. Beth went to work in the food brokerage industry.  During this time, she met and married Dick Martin (retired Oregon City Police Chief) in 1985. Beth worked on many political campaigns over the years and helped many candidates get elected.

Dick and Beth made many lifelong friends in their years together. Upon their retirements, they traveled often to Hawaii and Mexico making countless friends along the way. Her favorite place, however, was visiting with her beloved daughter Shelley and family in Peoria, Arizona.

Beth was a woman with many hobbies   ... working in the yard with her beautiful flowers and painting various yard statues in happy, funny colors and crocheting blankets to give to family and friends. Beth was never without a book to read and kept a running list so she didn’t re-read the same book.  Beth was predeceased by her parents, Wade and Miriam Bettis. She is survived by her two children, Terry Cravens (Karen), Shelley Wyatt (Floyd), and stepsons, Steve Martin (Karla) and Rick Martin (Suzette), eight grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and brothers Wade Bettis (Joan), Greg Bettis (Jan), and sisters Dianne (Pierce) and Lacey Bettis, (Chavela).

A private service was held with their children at their home. A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2021 due to COVID-19 issues. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in her honor.  Please visit for more information.
